Ok I want to first off say that my 2 year old, my husband and I had a great time here! We paid like $230 for a dolphin encounter. So you get into the water with a few other people and a bottlenose dolphin. It was amazing. They take you separately, so the other people were not in our photos. My trainers were Kylie and Sunny and our dolphin was Jet. This was an amazing experience. My 2 and a half year old did very well considering it was rainy and cold! Nevertheless we had a great time! Their photographer took plenty of photos and they turned out great! We arrived at Gulf World just in time to catch the sea lion and rough tooth dolphin show, we thought that was great as well! The trainers are funny and do a little show! Afterward you can stay and pay $15 to have the sea lion kiss you and get a printed photo. So that was fun! They have a shark and sea turtle feeding at 12, and a place where you can watch them when they aren't feeding. I have never seen a sea turtle so close! This was important to me because I LOVE sea turtles! They have bigger nurse sharks and smaller ones. They have penguins, sting rays, birds, and seals. So we had a great time. I gave Gulf World a 4 rating instead of a perfect 5 because well...after we get out with the dolphins we went to get pictures and we had to pay another $120 for pictures on a disk. If you have 4 people it is $149 and the pricing continues to go up. After paying $230 for the encounter. If you want to buy separate prints they are $25 a piece. Yes $25 a piece and you cant have a photo with your group in it. As in my husband, my daughter and I. We couldn't get a photo together if we didn't buy the disk. That is just a little ridiculous. After going to many, many aquariums this is the steepest price I have ever come across. We scraped pennies to do this for my daughter and then they charge $120 for photos. Come on! I am sure many people had to walk away because of that price! The "coral reef aquarium" section also had some fish in it, but that tank needs some color! We saw the bottlenose dolphin show and that was great. They have a couple other shows that we didn't make. But besides the outrageous pricing it really was a great time. Paying $230 for a dolphin experience, ok thats relative pricing, but $120 for photos! So like I said the trainers are pretty awesome and we loved Jet! It was raining the entire day and besides being a little chilly, we still had a wonderful time. I would definitely recommend bringing children here, just also break your bank before you come.
Three adults and two babies cost $90 to get in, then they nickel and dime you at every corner once inside. The bird show was absolutely lame. One bird flew thru some hoops around the auditorium and one made sounds in a microphone. The rest of the show was a dog sitting, rolling over, and laying down. The sea lion show was a little better, and the dolphin show was the best. It's good for smaller kids but not really for bigger ones. I'd take a 45 minute drive to destin and visit the gulfarium. It's way better shows and a larger, more zoo like setup with more aquariums and animals.
My husband and I took our 3yr old to Gulf World and she loved it! Initially I thought the tickets were a little high priced but once you get inside all of the shows are free. Our daughter begged to see sea lions and was even able to have her picture made with one! Also, your admission is good for the entire day. You can leave to grab lunch and come back afterwards, it was well worth the money spent.
